Miyapur is the far western end of the city, and the Metro terminus is what most people know it by. The Red Line stops here, and that connection is a large part of why the area shifted from farmland to apartment towers as quickly as it did.
What makes Miyapur different from the other growth corridors is what sits inside the new build. BHEL Colony is government quarters, put up for the staff of Bharat Heavy Electricals, and it is older stock with a different shape to it: smaller units, long-established residents, and the kind of accumulated household metal that a quarter of that age holds. A few streets away you have towers that are barely a decade old.
So the scrap here comes in two registers. The older quarters give up appliances that have been in place for years, along with grills, gates and the metal that comes with a long tenancy. The newer towers give up the first round of replacement, and the fit-out scrap that a recently completed block leaves behind. Both are ordinary household work rather than bulk, which is what makes Miyapur a volume area for us rather than a heavy one.
How we reach Miyapur.
Miyapur is our longest western run at about seventeen kilometres. We come up the Old Mumbai Highway through Kukatpally and KPHB, or across from Hitech City when we are already on that side. Forty to fifty minutes outside peak, which is why we batch Miyapur with Bachupally and KPHB jobs rather than sending a vehicle out for one pickup.
