Four grades, four rates
Bright copper, number 1, number 2 and insulated wire each carry a different rate, and the spread between them is wide. Sorting before we arrive is the single biggest thing you can do to lift your payout.
Stripping cable usually pays
Insulated wire is priced on the copper it contains, so the plastic is weight you are not paid for. On a long cable run, an hour with a knife often adds more than the hour costs.
Priced against the LME
Copper is a traded commodity. Indian rates follow the London Metal Exchange with a lag and a local adjustment, which is why the number you were quoted last month is already out of date.

Is it worth stripping copper wire before selling?
Usually yes. Insulated wire is priced on the copper it contains, so stripping can lift the value of a long cable run substantially.
How do I tell the copper grades apart?
Bright copper is bare and shiny. Number 1 is clean pipe or bus bar. Number 2 has solder, paint or oxidation. Insulated wire still has its plastic jacket. Send us a photo on WhatsApp if you are unsure.
