Kokapet is the high-rise core of the south-western growth belt, and it is the newest part of it. The Golden Mile runs between here and Gachibowli, and the towers along it are among the tallest residential buildings in the city. A good number of them are still going up.
That is what makes the work here different from Manikonda, which is the wider belt around it. Kokapet is young enough that there is very little household turnover to collect. Buildings that were finished two years ago have not had time to accumulate anything. What they have is construction and completion: active sites producing rebar, structural steel and scaffolding, and finished towers producing the fit-out material that never made it into a flat.
So the loads here are heavier and less domestic than anywhere else in the western belt. Site metal, panels, cable, ducting, framing and fittings, and the packaging and offcuts that a large project leaves behind. Household work does come up, but it is a small share of what we collect in Kokapet compared with the areas around it.
How we reach Kokapet.
Kokapet is about seventeen kilometres west of the yard. We come across through Jubilee Hills and Madhapur, then down past Gachibowli and onto the Golden Mile, or in from the Outer Ring Road side. Forty-five minutes to an hour outside peak, so a Kokapet run is planned rather than squeezed in.
